When Medicare is the patient's secondary insurance, the insurance setup differs from a standard Medicare primary insurance configuration.

When an insurance company is configured with the insurance type MB, an additional dropdown field becomes available, allowing you to select the appropriate Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) code.

Available MSP Codes:

Code Description
12 Working Aged
13 End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
14 Auto/No-Fault Insurance
15 Workers' Compensation
41 Black Lung
43 Disability
44 Obligated to Accept as Full Payment (OTAF)
47 Liability Insurance

Important Information:

Once an MSP code is selected, it is automatically included in the electronic claim submission whenever Medicare is listed as the patient's secondary insurance.

Please note that the MSP code is transmitted within the electronic claim file and is not displayed on the HCFA 1500 claim form. This is expected behavior and does not indicate that the MSP information is missing from the claim submission.
